No. That said, it’s fairly common to have alterations of sensory perceptions – seeing colors and visions, hearing sound distortions, and feeling alterations in your bodily perception and temperature. You can also experience time as moving faster and slower. Although breathwork is not a psychedelic experience, it can alter your brainwave state to bring you into a more relaxed, meditative state facilitating mystical experiences. As opposed to a psychedelic journey, you are always in control and able to change the intensity of your experience.

Yes. We believe that ultimately, the only one who can change your life is you – but breathwork can accelerate the process and allow you to change, heal and upgrade faster. While the results are individual, check out our testimonials to get an idea of what other students have experienced.

Breathwork has a number of effects on the physical body – read more on our What is Breathwork page. One important effect is that breathwork makes your body more alkaline. Since disease can only thrive in an acidic environment, you’re creating an internal environment supportive of health. Breathwork also strengthens your lungs and helps with athletic performance.

The effects after breathwork are individual and often vary from session to session. Many people report feeling sensations of ease and vibrancy, feeling alive, grounded and peaceful. Mentally, breathwork helps get perspective so that the problems you entered the session with suddenly feel less significant. It also promotes focus, concentration and mental clarity. Depending on the type of breathwork, you may feel alert and awake or relaxed and ready for bed.

Thanks to the versatility and flexibility of the practice, breathwork can be adapted to suit anyone. More intense styles of breathwork should be avoided – at least without consulting a medical professional – by persons with cardiovascular disease, high blood pressure, glaucoma, retinal detachment, osteoporosis, significant recent physical injuries or surgery.

Breathwork is not advised for severe mental illness or seizure disorders or for persons using some types of medications. It is also not recommended for anyone with a personal or family history of aneurysms.

Pregnant women are advised against practicing breathwork without first consulting and getting approval from their primary care provider. Persons with asthma should have their inhaler present and consult with their primary health care physician.

The term “breath work” refers to deep, diaphragmatic breathing or belly breathing, which research suggests may cause relaxation responses in the body. Breathwork exercises include a variety of breathing techniques intended to improve one’s physical, emotional, and mental wellness. You have probably been told to take deep breaths before, professional breathwork expands on this.

Furthermore, breath work is often referred to in the context of “interventions” such as breathing techniques, diaphragmatic breathing, or breathing rehabilitation.

Breath work includes specialized breathing exercises such as holotropic breathing, which is more commonly used as mind-body therapy and is connected to specific theories and varying degrees of supporting evidence.

Breathwork training entails mastering a number of methods intended to regulate and control breathing. The mental, physical, spiritual, and emotional health of coaches and their clients can benefit greatly from learning breathwork. Practitioners frequently use it to treat stress, anxiety, trauma, and other ailments.

Individual or group sessions facilitated by an experienced facilitator are available to those who are interested in learning more about breathwork. Another choice is to look for various breathwork facilitator training courses, programs, and opportunities that will provide them with the authority necessary to lead people through breathwork sessions. Both individuals who want to specialize in teaching breathwork and those who simply want to advance their understanding can receive training.

Breathwork and meditation are related because breathing exercises are necessary for meditation, although breathing exercises can be used on their own to develop mindfulness and are not always required in conjunction with meditation. There are countless types of meditation, and with each one comes a unique breathing technique. However, these are both different relaxation techniques.

Intentional breathing techniques, such as yogic breathing, diaphragmatic breathing, and other breathing exercises, have been shown to have numerous positive effects on physical and mental health, well-being, as well as on the quality of life. Proper breathing practices may:

  • Help reduce post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD)
  • Reduce stress and stress-related conditions, such as anxiety, depression, substance abuse, and other stress-related medical conditions
  • Improve your overall quality of life
  • Decrease hypertension
  • Improve immune response
  • Promotes more restful sleep
  • Sharpens your memory
  • Improves heart health
  • Reduces blood pressure

This breathing technique refers to slow and deep breathing. The most effective muscle for breathing is the diaphragm, which is found near the base of the lungs – for those with healthy lungs, it performs roughly 80% of the work required to breathe.

When practicing diaphragmatic breathing, you tighten your abdominal muscles and expand your upper chest as you inhale slowly and consciously take deep breaths. This is an excellent way to learn breath control. Breathing deeply helps you get more oxygen into your central nervous system; therefore, reducing blood pressure and your heart rate.
